Celebrate the State of Israel with The Troupe
Wednesday, April 29th, 7:00 p.m.
Let’s celebrate the birth of the State of Israel with this classic film.
The Band, הלהקה, (also known as The Troupe) is an Israeli comedic musical, first shown in April 1978, about an army singing group in 1968. Three new members are hazed at first, one of them falls in love, and the choir’s leader, in preparation for a television appearance, rehearses the troupe so much they revolt. The movie was initially unsuccessful but has gained in popularity. The choir’s leader is based on real-life composer, arranger, and music director of the Nahal troupe, Yair Rosenblum. The film was directed by Avi Nesher.

But wait, there’s more…A special guest!
This morning we received a note from our member, Yiftach Levy, informing us about his personal excitement regarding this film.
Really fun to see about the movie screening tonight… fun, and more meaningful than you could possibly know: my dad was the sound man on that movie. It’s the last film he worked on in Israel before we moved to the US in 1978. I grew up immersed in the music featured in the movie and more well-versed in some of the history of the time than some of my peers (certainly those who weren’t living in Israel).
We are so grateful to Yiftach for connecting us with his father, Avi Levy, who will join us for the screening. Following the film, Avi will be happy to share his experiences from filming and answer your questions.
