TIS Support for the People of Ukraine

Dear Tifereth Israel family and friends,

We are all struggling on many levels with the crisis in Ukraine – we wonder how we can help, how we talk about this with each other, and how we talk to our children about this. We know that many of you may have family still there or this is your country of origin which makes what is happening so much more personal. We don’t want anyone, whether adults or children to start believing that being tough and aggressive is equated with being right.

Ways to Give: As we have shared previously, the Federation has launched an emergency campaign to help provide shelter, food and other goods, medical services, emergency Aliyah support and more to Jews in harm’s way. All of the funds are being forwarded through Jewish Federations of North America directly to our overseas partners – The Jewish Agency for Israel, Joint Distribution Committee, and World-ORT. Click here to donate.

Locally in San Diego, The House of Ukraine (museum in Balboa Park) has set up a way to support Ukraine by either donating here or by purchasing Humanitarian Aid and delivering the items to the House of Ukraine. You can also bring donation items to Tifereth Israel Synagogue and we will transport them to the House of Ukraine. Click here for what items are needed for donation.

Under the Masorti movement, there are four sister Conservative Jewish communities in Ukraine. Like the rest of Ukraine, these communities are in need of our support. You can click here to learn more about their situation and you can also click here to support them.

How to speak to your children: Click on the following link, American Academy of Pediatrics, to find out how to speak to your children about this difficult situation.

Please reach out if you are in need of support. If you have family in Ukraine, please let us know so that we can add them to our Mishebeirach list. Also let us know if we can be of assistance to your family.

We pray for peace and for safety for all of Ukraine

Rabbi Josh Dorsch
