Friends:
We are entering Shabbat here in Israel, in between Yom HaShoah and Yom HaZikaron. Last week’s attack in San Diego once again showed us how we can never forget what hatred towards our people leads to. While I am 6,000 miles away from San Diego this Shabbat, I offer this song in support of my beloved Tifereth Israel community, Rabbi Josh Dorsch, and the members of the community in Poway who suffered a terrible loss.
I dedicate this song, ״כשהלב בוכה״ by Sarit Hadad, to my cherished community members in San Diego, to the people who perished during the Holocaust and to anyone who has lost their lives ״על קידוש ה׳״.
This Shabbat, may we continue to defy hatred, continue to sing שמע ישראל, and show that our flame is only brighter in the face of antisemitism.

When the heart cries only God hears
The pain rises from the soul A man falls down before he sinks He cuts the silence with a small prayer Shma Israel, my God, you are the mighty one You gave me my life you gave me everything A tear in my eyes, the heart cries in silence And when the heart is silent the soul cries out Shma Israel, my God, I am all alone now Make me strong, my God, so I will not be afraid The pain is great and there is no where to run Make it end, I don’t have any strength left When the heart cries time stands still A man sees his life passing in front of him He doesn’t want to go to the unknown He calls his God as he stands on the edge of the deep |
