Gan/Kindergarten- Darren York
Darren is in his first year teaching Kitah Gan though this is his third year working with Tifereth Israel. He takes an active and creative approach to Hebrew and Judaica to get his students excited and engaged in Judaism.
Alef/1st Grade – Amethyst Tagle-York.
Amethyst joined our school in 2016. She has her Masters in Education with a specialization in Teaching. Amethyst is excited to get know the children and begin the adventure of learning through art, songs and stories. She is a Native Spanish speaker, and is currently working on her Hebrew as well as Russian and hopes to learn a fifth language someday soon!
Bet/2nd Grade – Liat Caines
Liat is a student at SDSU majoring in Psychology and School Counseling. She attended a Jewish Day school from first to twelfth grade and is passionate about the value of a Jewish education and Israel. Her mom is a teacher so she has grown up with a passion for teaching.
Gimmel/3rd Grade – Julia Elhai
Julia is a senior at San Diego State University majoring in International Security and Conflict Resolution with a minor in Women’s Studies. She visited Israel on birthright and felt a strong connection so she then continued to go back and become a Hasbara fellow as well as go for Purim this year. She has been a counselor at Camp Alonim for three years and loves working with kids and enhancing their Jewish education.
Daled/4th Grade – Dylan Dahan
Dylan is a Mechanical Engineering student at UCSD. He is the President of UCSD Challah for Hunger which sells challah biweekly to fund hunger relief. He spent the past five summers working as a counselor at Camp Alonim. Dylan is an avid rock climbing, enjoys making pottery, and going Israeli folk dancing.
Hay/5th – Maya Klareich
Maya is a Senior at Patrick Henry High School. She spent this past summer in Poland and Israel for seven weeks and loved every second of it. She was a camper at Camp Ramah in California for nine summers and is planning on going back as a counselor. She’s also active in USY and currently serves as our Chapter President. She’s been a madricha in our Torah School for sixth and seventh grades for three years.
Vav/6th & Machar/Kadima Advisor – Linda Williams
Linda is attending Grossmont College and is focused on transferring to UCSD after completing her general education classes. She was a madricha for Torah School for 5 years and was very involved in USY for 4 years, serving as President for 2years. Linda travelled to Israel on USY pilgrimage and JITLI. She is very excited to teach and find fun new ways to engage the kids.
Zayin/7th Lili Fiengold
Lili grew up in San Diego, graduated with honors from San Diego State University with a BA in Liberal Arts. She continued her higher education at the Hebrew University Jerusalem in Israel, with an emphasis in political science, Holocaust studies and journalism. Upon her return to California, she earned her teaching certificate at SDSU. Lili has been with the Abraham Ratner Torah School for the past four years and is excited for a new, dynamic year!
Senior USY Advisor Ilan Sobel
Ilan is a wonderfully unique individual. He has a B.S. in Chemistry and three years of experience as a Teva (Nature) Specialist at Camp Alonim. He has held several leadership positions including VP of Social Affairs for the Jewish Student Union at San Diego State. He is currently Lab assistant at Electroanalytical Chemistry. Most importantly, Ilan is a USYer! Ilan will oversee the Jr. and Sr. USY programs.
