The members of Tifereth Israel Synagogue’s Sisterhood provides support and assistance to Tifereth Israel Synagogue and the community at large.
We Serve Our Children
Sisterhood provides financial support to Tifereth Israel’s Silverman Preschool and Abraham Ratner Torah School, and provides holiday treats for the children. Sisterhood also awards scholarships to Camp Ramah each summer and funds special events for our children. This past year we donated a shofar to each and every Torah School student.
We Serve Our Congregation
Sisterhood also serves home baked sweets after Friday night and Saturday Shabbat Services. A tray of baked goods and a personal visit are shared with bereaved families during the week of shiva. Sisterhood members help the congregation plan, set up. and clean up various programs and activties through the year.
Sisterhood also makes substantial and generous donations to enhance the synagogue’s service to its members and community. The Traditions Gift Shop and Sisterhood’s fund-raising activities insure that Judaism will flourish and grow in San Diego.
We Serve Our Community
Members of Tifereth Israel Synagogue’s Sisterhood also perform innumerable mitzvot outside the walls of the synagogue. We collect toiletries and other necessities for Rachel’s House, a shelter for abused women. We also collect eyeglasses for the San Diego Center for the Blind. We provide meals for San Diego’s homeless and volunteer at the Cottage of Israel.

Everyone shops so why not support our Sisterhood and our congregation at the same time?
How many gift cards did you buy last year? Now you can buy them and benefit Sisterhood and Tifereth Israel Synagogue. Keep them on hand for birthdays, bridal and baby showers, graduations, teachers, and more.
But don’t stop there! You already know where you shop and what you shop for. Shop with gift cards. You can spend them like cash and we’ll receive a percentage of the face value. Without changing their shopping habits, an average family can generate hundreds of dollars a year and we will reap the benefits. That’s a significant donation!
What vendors participate? Click here for a complete listing of shopping, dining, grocery, and entertainment options.
You can purchase gift cards online or phone our office at (619) 697-6001. If the cards are available, you will be able to pick them up at the synagogue office within 48 hours. If for any reason the cards are not immediately available, we will notify you on the next business day after you place your order. Your cards will be ordered and you’ll be contacted (usually within 10 days) when your order is ready for pick-up. If you do not see your favorite vendor or have a special request, you may call the office or email us and we will contact Judy Gumbiner. Our Sisterhood’s gift card program is growing and we all want to support this effort which, in turn, supports our congregation.
The Passport Unlimited Dining Card
What is it? A Passport Dining card allows you to save at world-class restaurants with 2 for 1 entrées at most fine dining establishment in the network. You’ll receive your second entrée, compliments of the restaurant, on an unlimited basis.*
*The discount may not apply at certain restaurants on major holidays, such as Mothers Day, Valentines Day, etc. Call the restaurant in advance of making your holiday reservations to verify their acceptance of the Passport discount.
How it works: Your Passport Dining annual membership card grants you exclusive discounts at more than 850 fine dining establishments across the country. In San Diego alone, there are over 100 participating restaurants, including the Cohn Restaurant Group and Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and Grill.
