Tifereth Israel Sisterhood is a social, philanthropic and service organization within the Tifereth Israel community. We offer Jewish women, as well as men, a place to gather, socialize and strengthen the bonds that connect us.
The word “sisterhood” represents a relationship of closeness, sisterliness and familiar, familial feelings. Through this relationship, we enrich and embrace ourselves, our families, our synagogue, and our community.
Tifereth Israel Sisterhood is affiliated with the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, the network for women who support the mission of enhancing Jewish knowledge, engaging in Jewish life, expanding communal involvement, and supporting Klal Israel.

Tifereth Israel’s Sisterhood provides support and assistance to Tifereth Israel Synagogue and to the community at large.
We Serve Our Children
Sisterhood provides financial support to Tifereth Israel’s Silverman Preschool and Abraham Ratner Torah School. Sisterhood also awards scholarships to Camp Ramah each summer and funds special events for our children. Before the High Holy Days, we provide a shofar to each Torah School student along with a lesson and demonstration. This fosters their active participation in the services and a deeper connection to Judaism.
We Serve Our Congregation
Sisterhood prepares and serves home baked sweets after Friday night and Saturday Shabbat Services. Our members help the congregation plan and provide various programs and activities throughout the year. We organize special luncheon visits to members of our congregation who reside at Seacrest Village, the Jewish residential facility for long term care and assisted living.
Sisterhood provides an annual T’rumah and other financial donations to Tifereth Israel Synagogue for both capital improvement projects and service to the membership.
We Serve Our Community: Social Action
Anne Heller, Coordinator
Tifereth Israel Sisterhood performs mitzvot outside the walls of the synagogue. We provide home-cooked meals for San Diego’s homeless through the Interfaith Housing Coalition. We participate in food drives for community food pantries and serve as sponsors of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Community Clean-Up Day in January. We share and disseminate information about events and opportunities to assist those in need, regardless of faith.
Tikkun Olam Club: Help Us Repair the Community
Ruth Romanoff Braun, Coordinator
The Tikkun Olam Club is a new program. Its purpose is to bring together adults within our community who share an interest in “repairing the world,” a concept known as Tikkun Olam. Throughout the year, Sisterhood participates in projects that seek to remedy and address various needs within the community. Hunger is a priority need. Through the Tikkun Olam Club program, we hope to build interfaith participation in addressing vital community needs.
Tikkun Olam Club members will receive a package of benefits including:
- Invitations to participate in community events and Sisterhood social action projects.
- A restaurant discount dining card during your membership year, good for 2 for 1 entrees at hundreds of fine dining establishments throughout San Diego, in many US cities and in Canada, as well as other discounts.
- Other special benefits that may be available during the year.
*A Tikkun Olam membership alone does not carry the rights and privileges that come with a traditional Sisterhood membership, unless it is purchased along with or in addition to a regular membership package.
For more information about the Tikkun Olam Club, please email us.
